NB heatsink/fan is DRIVING me nuts!!! Is passive ok?

I have the IC7 and my NB fan HAS GOTTA GO! After putting my mobo in a Sonata it is the ONLY thing that I hear! So... if I use a Zalman heatsink like many people have done... Can I run it passive? I dont OC... just Video editing on this machine.
