Question whats the key to high scores in 3D2K1?

I just got an ATi9600 pro and Im OCing it at 450mhz core and 660mhz memory and Im only getting 12500 scores. It goes up and down a little from there but thats about all. Can I change settings to score better or is this pretty good were Im at now??

The keys to getting maximum scores in 3DMark 2001 is to have a maximum system from the ground up. Fastest processor, fastest FSB, fastest memory at the strictest timings, fastest video card, etc etc. If you have a slow processor and FSB, but have the best ram at the tightest timings and the absolute best video card OC'd to the max, you still won't get a great score. 3DMark 2001 is dependant on the entire system...

Now on the other hand, if you were to start benching with 3DMark 2003, you really only need to concentrate on the video card speed and raw frond side bus speed. Processor power doesn't get considered much on 3DMark03.

well if you turned down the image quality that would give slightly higher scores

OH...Im working on uping my FSB but setup is ****ing lame. Everything is brand new except my 80G, and 2G HD's. She will not boot. She wont even detect drives after I changed the FSB up to 195 and then 200, and then 205. Im not sure whats up but something is not working right. Ill keep working on it though

Key to top 3DMark scores (or whatever bench):
Lots of overclocking experience
Lots of $$$
Lots of time to fiddle

You are overclocking your CPU and it can't handle it. You sure you know what your doing? be careful

it not the cpu cuz it doesnt even go past the drive detection stage. Well, Im not 100% sure but hehe. Now for some reason it working fine and lets me change the setting to what ever I want. I dont really get it...

I just did some more 3Dmark2k1 and got:

AT 205FSB

125 something @1024x763, 32 bit color
14146 @ 800x600, 32 bit color
15282 @ 640x480, 32 bit color

AT 210FSB

15865 @ 640x480, 32 bit color.

Not to bad I guess...Ill try more when I get my Zalman heat pipe and memory coolers for my vid card.

well yes. if you are increasing the FSB of your system you are directly effecting the CPU speed. That's why it won't boot, because it is extremely unstable.

If you are not an experienced overclocker and it sounds like you aren't i strongly urge you to stop and do some research before you kill your system trying to squeeze a few extra 3dmark points

AL Romero, Do not want to make you mad but you need to slow down and do some reading before you fry your system.
When you start Overclocking your computer you start making more heat, so you need good cooling read this section of the forums http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/forumd...?s=&forumid=6.
Then head out to the main page at http://www.overclockers.com/
and do some reading in the http://www.overclockers.com/topiclis...NNER%20GUIDES. After that then start going for the OC.
Take it a step at a time and you get a very nice OC out of the system of yours without have to say I broke my computer.

Drop your multiplier to like 8 or 9 or so and find your highest FSB without worrying about the cpu

i dont know what classifies me as experienced!!! ive been at it for about 9 months with 2 systems and I have done more reading that most im sure. I dont really this Im OCing that far. I like to stay around 2.2Ghz, and Im only running 1.7vcore as of today. I have not primed her though I will tonight but she runs fine now. Like I said before, this is happening only when I change the FSB settings that it stops right in the begining when it says "detecting drives" that it stops. It doesnt matter what the FSB is set at when this happens. I have had it at 133mhz and it still does it. But then all the sudden it will detect drives at boot at whatever FSB I want. Im not pushing my CPU that hard and my mobo should take these setting with flying colors. So should the CUP from what Ive read. I got a good one (AIUHB:0302). Im wondering if I got a bad apple mobo though. My last mobo was an NF7-M ver. 1.0 and it had this problem too so I called the vender and they exchanged it for another. Im not sure if they sent me a ver. 1.2 or what but it worked fine after that. This NF7-S is a 1.2 so maybe I got a bad one???
Anyway, even if I do fry something I'll just start over...hehe Its only money right???
thanks for your concerns,
AL

That means that you are pushing your FSB to far for something in your system it couid be your sound card, hard drive, or any of the other things in your system it might even be your memory that is holding you back.
And not all MB's and prossors overclock the same it does not matter what someone else got for an OC you system might not go that high.
