Need to replace video card

Something went wrong(maybe overheating) with my current card in my sig(graphics, artifacts in safe mode and freezes at startup or system restarts in normal mode, ect..)

Now I need to get a replacement.
My price range is $150 or less. I hear mixed reviews on the radeon 9600 pro and not so sure If I should get it. I was also thinking about getting the albatron turbo ti4200 and overclock to a ti4600. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The 9600 would last longer than the ti4200. I haven't heard anything bad about the 9600 in it's price range, what have you heard?

I read things like the card isn't that smooth. Still buggy drivers. Some even saying that they scored higher in 3dmarks2001se with their ti4200 then with the 9600. Plus the complaint of the 9600 only coming with stock memory speed of 400mhz rather then 500mhz. I don't know if thats the reason that a ti4200 may get higher 3dmark scores in 2001se. Right now I mostly play is quake 3 arena. So maybe in my case I would see better performance with the ti4200 because the game doesn't use those extra features that the 9600 has to surpass the ti4200. Thats just my guess. I'm not really sure how it works.

i would get the 9600 pro....the ti4200 is not a direct x 9 card...i have two and i loved them for what they did, the 9600 pro is a pretty capable card.

Is there a specific brand to look for or it doesnt matter? I heard sapphire is good. Also, If 9500 pro is suppost to be faster and about the same price, why do more people still suggest the 9600 pro?

Probably because 9500 Pros aren't even in production anymore. ATI replaced the 9500s and the 9700s with the 9600s and the 9800s.

The older series of cards can still be found, but it requires searching, something you may not be able to do.

The 9500 Pros, if you find one, are also priced much closer to $200

A darn shame considering they are great cards. Most people can't afford or find them. I guess I would find it justifiable to jump directly up to a 9800np (newegg had them back in stock) or a 9700 pro if in fact I was to pay $200....whats $40 more at that point???
