Is WinXP PRO really faster than Home Edition?

I just got a new notebook and it came with HOME, not pro. Will I see a benifit from installing PRO or should I just leave home. I have 640MB of memory..

depends, do you like a little blue startup load bar compared to green?

both OSs are very much the same, your best just stick with home

Agreed. Unless you feel like wasting money on pro there is absolutely no point in going with pro.

Pro is SMP enabled, Home is not.
Pro also has some other networking features and servers that home does not.

thanks for the replys.. So I'm gathering Home and Pro is the same when it comes to peformance. When reading a Cnet notebook review I remember the reviewer saying that Win XP Pro was faster in the business benchmarks than home was.. I wonder if there was any true to that? Maybe Pro manages memory better or something?

IMO, you'll find no advantage in installing XP Pro on your laptop.

There's no difference in the memory management between Home and Pro. Pro has a pile of server/domain stuff that Home doesn't.

Pro = More Bloat.

I suppose it all boils down to what you want to use your Laptop for.......

How do you recognise something that is still technology?
A good clue is if it comes with a manual...

Pro also has Remote Desktop, which might prove useful. . .

here's a side by side comparison between Pro and Home, straight from Microsoft!

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../choosing2.asp

Pro's additions:

Remote desktop

Offline folders

SMP

File encryption

Access control

Multi-lingual UI

A whole load of network related useful stuff like roaming user profiles
