My budget for a new PSU is around $80. I was looking at the EG465P-VE FC and rails look better overrall then even the antec 550w. Also is it important to have active PFC because none of these PSUs say they come with it but people still say these are very good powersupplies.

antec true550:
+ 5 = 40A
+12 = 24A
+3.3 = 32A

enermax eg465p:
+5 = 35A
+12 = 33A
+3.3 = 35A

With these rails I still wonder why a lot of people still recommend antec over enermax.
Please let me know if theres any other power supplies I may want to look at in the $80 dollar price range or possibly cheaper.

Specs aren't everything... Enermax has never impressed me much for what you get for your money. Not bad, but build quality I find to be merely average with them. Don't worry about PFC (power factor correction) - it has nothing to do with how well the PSU powers the computer. Here's an explanation: http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci866381,00.html

In your budget, not much can beat the Fortron 530w unit at Newegg... this thing will power the Enermax 430's right under the table, specs or no specs. I also recommend the Antec 430w+ units.

I've been reading around and I was wondering if the forton 350w would be good enough for what I have.

Actual specs:
sl-75frn2-rl
2 western digital special editions
1 cd burner, 1 cd-rom
radeon 9500np(moded to 9700, will do some overclocking)
buffalo winbond ram pc3200 512mb @ 2.8 400mhz 2-2-2-6
xp 1700 tbred overclocked @ 2.2ghz 11 x 200
5x 80mm case fans

It should have no problems with that setup - I've heard of people running duals off these :)

I use(d) a 350W Fortron in both barton machines listed in my sig. Never had any stability problems, even with heaving overclocking of both the cpu and gpu.

Cool thanks for the info guys.

Mustanley,

Did you have to mess with the pots on the fortron to maintain stability?
