It sounds like it could be a bad chip but if it works I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure if you give computergeeks a call they will send you a new one if it doesn't work. My guess is it won't work.
I would certainly send it back and get it replaced. It might run fine it might not, but its best to start with a clean slate. You will probably have plenty of chances to chip the core yourself you don't need any help.
