Water cooling mini pc.

Just curious mainly as this is somthing i want to try myself sometime this coming year. Prescott will be released which will cause prices on existing p4's to drop, making them finally viable budjet sollutions. I was happy with my 1600+ as long as it had a nice graphics card in it. my 2100+ is overkilll.

I want to get a Mini pc sometime in the new year after prescotts releases. It is likely i will go with an intel model as there are now chipsets that can feed it with sufficiant memory bandwidth at low latency *shudders at the days of rdram* and these are available in flex platforms now too. sis and intel chipsets are available which support everything i think i really need. most importantly is memory performence and agp 8x. firewire and serial ata is soooooo moot.

soooo. assuming i get somthing like a flex atx system from shuttle based on intel 865G, I would want somthing like a p4 2.4c or 2.6c, and i want to take a stab at miniture water cooling

has anyone else done this? I know the heatpipe coolers on these systems are probably adequate but i still want to mod the hell out of it. its a platform move to convenience but also to have some fun with.
have you seen it done with standard flex cases? I have seen some messed up scratch cases, such as y2k bug and all that which are sweet. but i dont think i could have my comp in that =|

There have been a few in here but I don't recall who they where, the trick is to use smaller blocks (Gemini) and pumps (Maxi-jet PH) small rads like the black ice minis. I built one in a briefcase a while back that is now going into a 2U case (desk ) for my daughter.
I will look around for them, but I think one could have been by captain slug but I'm not to sure.

I was kind of thinking of building my own rad. you know, get that whole hands on thing going. I can solder pretty well and i belive its possible to do. failing that, BIM is a good choice XD. dd maze would fit too its just the placement of a pump and res. i know there was a all in one unit for that that had a 1 litre res i think with a integrated pump. Somthing smaller would be needed. more like 500-600 ml with high flow, but not too high as a smaller radiator would probably be a bit happier with a slower system =|
I forgo the dvd rom for the res I think and use the 3 1/2" floppy bay for a digital display with fan controls, and temp readings. a mini pc with a digi doc 5 in it would be pretty weet XD

You could use a "T" line instead of Res and the Maxi Jets are small pumps
PS The best “T” type fitting IMHO for a small cases is the “Prestone radiator flush kit” it has a screw on cap with a seal and is about $4 in an auto part store has 3 or 4 T's with different barb sizes (only one cap)

In this pic you can see the Maxi-jet pump and the "T" (The PSU next to it is a mini-ATX so don't let the size mess with you)

some people have watercooled shuttles, and they are about as small as they come. you can see two of them here and here. a friend and i hope to watercool our shuttles over christmas break, so that should be a challenge. as far as waterblocks go, the koolance blocks are pretty small, and the barbs dont stick up, which would make it a good choice for a very small system. granted, they are not the best in the world, but in a very small system, you will have to make some sacrifices. good luck.

Well i have been looking at the board layouts for shuttle and soltek... I may be wrong, but there appears to be no vertical obstuction to the cpu in those cases. I really want the msi but just for that front panel. thats by no means a performence pc. and qbit isnt a lot better =\ I just wish that shuttle didnt look like ass.

Ok. I really want one of these =| perhaps somthing a little more ... clean and internal but i want it XD. since i would be using a p4 2.4c or.. hell. i might even go for nforce and use my 2100+, I dont belive im going to need a radiator quite that overkill. I should look around for small radiators that work with 60 and 80 mm fans of all copper design. they dont nessiarily need to be computer related. if i could find a heater core this small, wicked cool ^^. incidently, pump wise, isnt there a maxijet that is like... mini? 180 gph i belive and it was really tiny?
out of curiousity.. how efficiant is the thermaltake radiator that comes with the aquarius? I know, i know pre bundled sucks ass. but that is a pure copper rad that fits 80 mm. I kind of want to use a smart fan 2 for looks *is thinking window* has anyone used this rad with say, a dd4?

I was thinking about watercooling a small case myself. What about some of the small Innovatek blocks?

#rotor makes 1U CPU blocks that might be of use to tiny case coolers:
