Sony DRU 500a Broken?

Hey all, has anyone experienced this...

My sony dru 500a appears to be broken. its having trouble reading CD's. it makes a fairly loud clicking noise when I put a CD in. It started a couple of days ago, then yesterday it seemed to read a cd with no problem, then today it couldn't read again.. clicking noise comes every 10 seconds or so..

oh, its having trouble on both CD and DVDs..

is the damn thing garbage after only 11 months???

I have the DW-U10A, and the same thing has happened to me. Sometimes it can read, sometimes it can't. I think that's my fault though, since I bumped the tray out of line w/ my big doof head of mine, but I popped it back in place, and that whole thing happened in July. Any idea as to what I can do? I'm thinking of taking the drive out of the case and seeing if any little debris is in there or whatnot, but I probably won't be able to do that until next weekend.

well I called tech support and had to send mine in for repairs, I just mailed it today.. :/ 2 - 4 weeks (they claim).. They didn't have me try anything with it, as soon as I told them what was going on, they just checked to see if it was still under warranty (1 year warranty) and then gave me the info to mail it in.

you should do it too, before the warranty runs out

I actually sent in a Googlegear RMA on it, but never got a response and just dropped it for a bit. Did you contact Sony itself?

yea I called straight to sony. how long have you had the drive for? googlegear might only support it for a couple of weeks, and then only if it was delivered defective.

there's a pamphlet in the box telling you about the warranty, with a phone number to call. just call that # and get yourself in touch with an operator and they'll transfer you to the right department

Either got it OEM or I don't have the box, I'll check it out this weekend when I have some semblance of time, heh.
