Question This may be a stupid question, but...

Sorry if this is really obvious but I have never messed with memory settings before only CPU. My BIOS says that the timings are 2.5-3-3-8 with a burst length of 8. What does all of that mean and what's best? Also, I heard about 1:1, 3:2, and 5:4 ratios. What are those and whats best? I looked for this stuff in the BIOS terms guide on that sticky and didn't find them.

Could someone explain these to me?

If it matters I have 2X256MB DDR400's from Samsung on a MSI Neo2-S mobo with a P4 2.6C and the FSB at 224.

Run some sandra mem bandwidth benches. Then put the bios settings to 2-3-3-8 Youll gain alot from the cas lat. Lastly put them to 2-2-2-5 test them. The lower the better. 1:1 means its in sync with the fsb ie 224 fsb 224mhz or 448ddr. 3:2 will yeild higher fsb because it makes the ram slower at that ratio. like 300fsb=200 on the ram

where in the bios would those ratio settings be? I can't find them. would they be with the timings or what? also, the largest throughput was with 2.5-3-3-8 (4689MBps).

In my bios those ratios are in the secton with fsb. Mine are 266 320 and 400. Which means 266=3/4 320=4/5 and 400=1/1.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.
