I posted this a while ago, but I need a utility that can format a flashcard. Is there anything? My camera liked the original filesystem on my card, but when I put fat16 on it it stopped working on the camera. How can I put it back to what it was, which was most likely fat12?

usually the camera can format the flash card. I know my nikons all will. What camera are you using? I'd check the camera manufacturer's website to see if they have any utilities there.

Its an old camera, a mustek vdc-300. I cannot format the card, and partition magic wont see it. Only hard drives. Ill check the cam manufacture's site, I didnt think of that. I only checked the flash card manu's site. Also, forgive my if my typing is bad, as I am just well enough to get up. I have been sick since saturday.

According to here:
http://www.mustek.com/Support/vdc300faq.html#problem2
you can just use any cf card. So that means either the camera formats them on first use or they are the standard format (fat 16 or fat 32)

Crucial shows these as compatable with your camera

As for formating. If you have card reader use that to hook it to a comptuer and format it with windows. (this probably wont work if you just use the data cable to hook the camera to the comptuer).

Or you can try this: (i didn't look at it too closely)

If It requires fat12 you'll probably have to find a utility to do it. I'd call up mustek to see if they have any sugestions.

Here's a link to the manual:
http://www.mustek.com/Class/pdf/vdc300.pdf

On page 2 it says that you can't use cf cards over 32mb. It also has directions to use the cf card.

Page 39 of the manual says that if there is a cf error and you need to format it you need to use a card reader and dos. I would image you are right that it's fat12 (floppy format) and that if you format with dos you can format it as fat12. But do you have a card reader?
