Kingston PC3500 vs Corsair PC3200

Hi, another question for ocforums member expertise!

Basically I'm getting an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe board this week and have got everything else apart from the memory.
I can get twinned Kingston hyperX (KHX3500K2/512) and Corsair TwinX (TWINX512-3200LLPT) modules for about the same price.
Should I get the Kingston 2-3-3-7 or the Corsair 2-3-2-6?? Strangely, dabs.com and pcupgrader both quote the Kingston as being 2-2-2-6 and overclockers.co.uk give the Corsair 2-2-2-5?!
I want to oc the fsb so do you think getting PC3500 memory is a good idea or unneccessary? Most people in the poll go with Corsair being the best memory...

Thanks, jibbajab

If possible, you'd be better off with HyperX 3000 than either one of them. The ones at newegg are pretty much guaranteed to come with Winbond BH-5 chips, which is what the overclockability of the memory is primarily based on. Buying anything above would be a waste of money, and most probably turn out worse.

Although they quote the hyper-x at 2-2-2-6 I'm sure on the page somewhere it states that specifications subject to change without notice. If you check the hyper-x website they do not rate their ram at 2-2-2-6 on an Intel 865/875 mobo. It would be one of those * notations.

Thanks guys. I think its a toss-up really. I'm UK based so can't get the BH-5s from newegg!
I wonder what kind of oc one can expect from (e.g. Corsair) PC3200 memory? Should be happy with 220+ right?
Feb 03 review with 225Mhz oc here...

That review was most likely Corsair PC3200 LL v 1.1 which was a great module and was made with BH5 chips, I know people who have this memory and it's performing great. Current PC3200LL are v 1.2.

If you can get hold of that then go for it.
Also Kingston KHX3500 used to come with CH5 chips some time ago, but here it is harder to know as their is no version number.

But most likely, especially from online shops, these will be newer modules with CH5 chips. But it does not hurt to ask them, and if they can give some kind of guarantee that they will swap them if they do not do the 2-2-2 advertised specs then go for it.

Otherwise look for KHX3000 or KHX3200 as they are more likely to be the real thing.

Good luck!

Yea bummer.. I had a freind pick up Corsair pc3200 for his rig and they happened to be rev1.2's.... First thing I figure is if I bump the Vdimm up to 2.9v that they will run 11-2-2-2 @ 200fsb easy..But I was wrong it wouldnt even pass 30mins of prime..
So I had to settle with 11-3-3-2..@ 2.8v

My 3500 sticks are rev1.1 and they are doin amazing see sig..
