Question what should i do?

hi,
i have a p4 2.8c@3.5 with stock cooling but i am finding it really hard to get to 3.6 or anything above 3.5, so i am thinking about better cooling but i can not make up my mind what to get?
i can get a good water cooling setup for £300 or for £350 i can get a vapochill PE?

which is better to get me a higher OC?
because water cools everything but vapochill is only cpu

i will only be using it for gaming and not benching or folding

so what do u think i should do?

thanks

I would think you'd get better gaming performance if you could water-cool your video card along with the cpu. What kind of video card do you have? What are the rest of your system specs?

you might not have to spend $200-$300 on a water cooling kit. you should get a thermalright sp-94. you should lap your heatsink also. With the adding if this heatsink it should take off 4c-6c from your temp

lapping instructions http://www.overclockersclub.com/guid...pingguide.php#

good luck

"p4 2.8c@3.4(stock cooling@40oC) l asus p4c800 l ocz gold 3700 2x256mb l enermax psu and a fx5200 " -Rashio_UK's specs

-Upgrade that video card before anything else.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1513508
(stock 3.0C p4, fx5200, 512meg memory)

-i suggest a 9800np. (not se) A new video card would be faster by a factor of 4. whereas even phase change would get you 10% if you were lucky.

I use a mach II unit with the same CPU, I have it stable at 3.9, I used to use a 3.0 and had it OC'd at 4.1 with the Mach II , but it wasnt ROCK solid after about 12 hours of intense gaming...I dont mean to sound finiky, but stability is a concern for me as well. so I went with a 2.8 , and gained my stability for a lesser overall clock speed, but he FSB is higher. Your video card is definately whats limiting you... and youve got a good CPU there, I coulndt hit that high with air cooling..

water cooling since you will be gamin, because you want your vid card to be nice and cool. not really hot if you get vap, but then you only would have cpu cooling. have fun

water cooling to someone not to familiar with the whole process can be scary and there are several risks involved. If you feel comfortable with these risks , then a good place to start would be the new thermaltake external watercooling kit as seen here :

http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie..._Aquarius_III/

now its around $250 american dollars, not to bad for a whole kit that cools your CPU very safely, and by popping open the top of it, you could replace the fan used to cool the radiator for better performance ( i switched my cousins out very easily) , and it looks great.

If you dont want to go with the watercooling route then you can always make sure that your case is well ventilated, lap your CPU and heatsink and go for the air cooling route with a SLK HSF (heat sink and fan) .
