Two days ago my hdd stoped working. When i plug it in it just makes alot of noise and it sounds like the needle inside is hitting the casing or something. When i hold it at different angles it makes different noises and when tapped make different noises.

I had alot of important files on there. Is there a pocibility of fixing it?

Its a Hitachi (IBM) Deskstar 41gb 7200rpm...the deskstars really suck.

Is this the one that failed because of your PSU or whatever that was?
If so the motor for the little arm that swings across and reads stuff (and maybe the other one) is probably dead and there is no easy way that I know of to fix it, the motor would have to be replaced that that takes another motor and hella skills... somthing that only IMB or a specialist would probably have.

yeah it is, i didnt want to say anything because people might say then forget it.

But that sucks. Would me opening it and plugging it in to see be bad?

Opening HDDs is risky, just ask those who have done window mods. Precautions need to be taken, and I don't know what you'd do with it once you opened it. You might be out of luck on this one, but hopefully you'll figure it out.

i just wanted to obeserve what might be happening in there. this way i could get a better idea of how it could be repair and if it really is the motor.

First ive got to find a torx screw driver that small to open it.
