Problem with first RAID setup

Hello,

I recently set up my first ever RAID array, and I'm having a slight problem booting it. I'm using a Promise FastTrack TX2000 RAID controller card, 2 Western Digital 80gb Special Editions on an ESC K7S5A motherboard.

I'm striping, and my BIOS is set to boot CDROM, Floppy, SCSI and then try other boot devices.

If I take the CDs out of the drives, the computer will not boot, it tries all boot devices and then says "Please insert bootable disk in drive A:", and tries again but doesn't get anywhere.

If I put a bootable CD in the drive (I've been using the Windows XP cd) and wait for the "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM" prompt to time out, it then boot perfectly fine. But without a bootable cd-rom in, it won't boot.

Does anyone have any ideas why? I'm using the latest bios for all of the devices.

Thanks in advance.

You did paritition, format, and install an OS on the raid array, right? And make that partition bootable?

Assuming that is the case, I didn't see that you enabled normal IDE bootup in the bios. It just might show up as a normal ide drive to the bios. That's all I can think of right now. Disable all other boot devices and just leave IDE for the moment.

I would try putting scsi first in the list, it will save a few secs regardless.

Thank you, although neither suggestion solved the problem, I did find out where the problem was.

Although the manual says to select SCSI for the boot device, I didn't even notice the new option listed call "FT Arry X", and obvious as it now is, that was the right choice.

Thanks to both of you.

(Have I ever got egg on my face....)
