reomving 9800np heatsink

reomving 9800np heatsink


how would i go about removing the 9800np's stock heatsink? i already removed the fan, but i cant seem to figure out how to get the heatsink off :<

You take needle nose pliers and very carefully pinch the 2 black plastic pins from the back and it should come of. If it doesn't, twist the HS a little to loosen the AS or whatever they use.

Should just be two plastic push pins. You will need forceps or small needlenose pliers to remove the pins. How did you remove the fan. The fan on both of my 9800np cards was integrated into the heatsink.

there are small screws that go into the heatsink for the fan. ill have to get a small pair of pliers for this :<

Also, if you don't happen to have a pair of needle-nose pliers around (like at my house), tweezers work as well. Just make sure you squeeze as close to the little plastic things as possible. The metal of the tweezers bend, so you loose all your force if you try squeezing too high.

thanks for the help, the tweezers worked well...

one more thing, do i have to remove the shim in order to install my swiftech gpu block or should it be ok as is?

Youll get better contact and temps if you remove it. AND PLEASE RESIZE THE DAMN PIC.

I did not remove shim for the aftermarket heatsink I used. Too risky IMO.

i put a small amout of tim on the card then tightened down the block nicely. it spread it out nicely, and it appears to be making good contact. i think the slightly raised surface of the mcw50 fits within the shim..
