Fix for crackling sound on D865PERL

My D865PERL was having some serious crackling across the onboard sound.

The cure? I installed the older drivers for the Soundmax chip. I got them from the Asus P4C800 download site:

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...81.zip~zaqwedc

The Intel version is 5.12.01.3713 - Asus version is 5.12.01.3581

Hope this helps.

Now, I think I'm going to answer my own question when I say you probably couldnt afford a decent sound card like an audigy.

But this must be said....

What in the f*** are you thinking using the crappy onboard sound on a D865PERL?! I have the board and the onboard sound is the worst sounding crap since the SoundBlaster Pro 2.0 (Ca. 1994). At least save about $50 and go buy yourself a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1, it's old, but gives decent sound for the $$$ you put out.

Just dont use that onboard sound
The soundmax stuff may seem cool, but it reduces the audio quality to mud.

i was wonering what u mean by crackling sound....
do u mean it appears in the background and goes with the use of hdd, network and cpu? dragging , scroll, or move the mouse?

I have tried 3581,3583,3630,3713. none of these fixed the problem.

The crackling sound can be caused by any device using power, fans, hard disks, cdroms, even a PCI Network Card can cause it.

If you cant stand the crackling, just plunk down some cash and get at least a soundblaster Live! 5.1

well, i've basically isolated everything.
I took off everything like cdrw, all the fans(except cpu).
Left videocard, network and HDD on. I can still hear it. I've heard different stories claiming that the soundmax is better than the live 5.1....
