Hello team members,

I'm sorry because I'm sure this has been covered but searching and
browsing for awhile I can't find the answer.

On identical boxes (hardware) will folding@home run as fast under
(your average) linux distribution as it will under say - windows 2K?

Or are the folding clients similar to the SETI@home clients where the
linux flavors just aren't optimized to run as fast as your windows
varieties.

Sorry if this has been beaten to death but I coudn't find the info in
the FAQ's or browsing / searching for awhile now.....

I believe the best option is a linux box folding the windows version of F@H in Wine.

thanks 9mm. I've never messed with wine but I have some free time
and I can dual-boot a few of my machines to RH or SuSE in the case of on my latest linux install........ I think it's time to give it a whirl...........
I wouldn't have been running windoze at all but for SETI but now
that I'm folding - it might have worked better for SETI also with wine -
never tried that route. Time for something new.

I don't think you have to use wine anymore to get windows performance. I believe the linux client is just as fast as the windows verson.

Yeah, I dont belive there is much if any speed difference. There may be stability differences though :-)

I had some of the same questions. But maybe some of the more senior members can let you know if this is good or not. I'm running Linux Console Version 4.00 on the machine in my sig. I guess the main thing is you are folding, keep it up.

I'm running the custom Overclockix cd (thanks to Arkaine & Bubbagump) on 2 of my rigs & it seems to have as good or even better frame times as my Windows XP & Server 2003 rigs. And what I really like about it is that I can setup a folding rig without buying another hdd or os, thus saveing me money that I can use towards more folders. Hdd's can get expensive, but Windows XP isn't, as I have a license for 10 of them. Being an MS Partner does have it's advantages.
