Wow, 74c is extremly high case temp!

Normally you place the 'sucking fan' low in the front of your case and the blowing fan high in the back of your case...

lol

that is so high i cannot believe your system is running..... I mean there is just no way the parts can handle it... Unless this is project spontaneous cobustable i would really set up cooling much better before you even turn i on again...

meaning if you are reading this now with the comp that goes to 74c... shut down...

is your power cable or ide cables pressed against the board at all? your sensor is in the top corner of the mobo, where your ide cables will pass to get to the cd drives, they may be insulating the sensor. try tidying the cables thoroughly and tucking what you can away. if you dont already, round ide cables may well help prevent obstruction and aid smoother air flow

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS: Is your mobo on MBM 5 's list.If it is not it will not give you accurate readings.Do you have a thermomter you can place in the case to compare with?Could we get you to put your rigs specs in your SIG, please. On the fan subject,as Dawiper said ,front lower intakes & rear upper exhaust.Run your rig til it gets to the high temp.Shut it down and go into the bios (quick before it cools down) and see what the temp reading for the CPU is! it is possible to run a razor blade down between the wire strands in the cables and then bind the whole lot together with tape, but iv never wanted to risk it.

i would be careful about round cables because i have heard some nasty stories about information conflicts with the wires too close together. If I were you I would stick to the flat ones even though they are a pain. Just shove them behind some drive cages they'll be fine... I dont know what is more believeable a comp booting and running at scorching 74C or being cooled so well on air to be down to 74F ((74F-32)x(5/9))=23.3C.... sounds like a serious temp probe failure...

Try different settings inside MBM. Odds are, you prolly haven't set it up correctly. MBM will read my CPU temp @ -17°c, 38°C, or 94°C, depending on which temp sensor (Winbond2, Winbond2 Diode, etc) to read from. Try changing the sensor inside MBM's config menu. And like arch mentioned, check your BIOS for you actual mobo's readings...

linky

here are some linky on bad round cables

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.p...t=round+cables

http://www.dansdata.com/rcables.htm

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.p...t=round+cables

these are just a few of a ton i have read. Don't get me wrong I have also heard some success stories especially from SVC round cables, but the idea was just to give you a fair warning that you may or may not run into problems with round cables. If it were up to me I would just not dive into it unless your willing to take the risks and if you are and they dont work go through all the effort of sending them back for refunds etc...

It seems that only the P4VXASD is supported. Go here and click on "Motherboard List."

hey! i used to have that motherboard!!
worst one i ever owned
it actually gave me between 0c -5c for cpu, and 50c for the case, i'd say its a sensor error as well

Stick your hand into your case, you'll definitely know if its 74c (165F) or not
