Dual Channel Question...

In general (assuming all values are the same anyway), should I opt for a single stick of 512mb of RAM or spend the extra $3 and use two sticks of 256mb in dual channel mode?

I know it used to be that you wanted as much ram on as few modules as possible but now?

Any help much appreciated.

If you only want 512MB total, then buying 2x 256 would be the best idea as you will get the benefit of dual channel performance.

Don't even think of 1 stick. The performance increase from running in Dual-channel mode is tremendous.

Thanks. The wife is on a budget but I'm still trying to squeeze every bit of preformance out this that I can.

is this for a amd or intel rig? dual channel makes more of a difference on intels. if amd id say just get the single 512, that way if you decide latre on a gig its just one stick away
