so i did a complete format before installing xp pro on a 40GB drive (my bro's pc). i installed it on a 14GB partition figuring it would leave him with a 26GB partition for all his music files. however, the 26GB is just sitting there as unallocated space, i didn't think to format it during the install... is there a way to do it now, without starting over from scratch?

Can't you do that through CONTROL PANEL-ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS-DISK MANAGEMENT?

I guess I've never partitioned my drives because I always use at least 2 physical drives, but if you have unallocated space on your main drive, XP should be able to create the partition and format it, shouldn't it?

Disk Management is under Computer Management in Admin Tools.

It's simple to use, but be sure you don't delete any paritition in there. There is no "Are you sure?" nag screen like everywhere else. I learned the hard way...
