Go for mushkin?

Going dually (for me, 2x256mb) with mushkin Level II is the best choice for oc'ing memory now, right??

Since the bh-5 chips are being phased out, should I go for ch-5 now or should I stick w/mushkin?

I only have about $150 for memory at the most, I don't want to spend too much.

Yeah, that's about right. CH-5 won't provide as good latencies as BH-5 will, so it's definitely a good idea to get BH-5 while you still can.

Get the Mushkins. I am very impressed with them. The PC3200 Lev II falls within your budget and they will easily clock at 400 mhz. I have the PC3500's and they are rated 433.

yeah but the bh6's even on mushkin site says they aint gonna run the kinda speeds good bh5 has been doing. you might want to consider some late revision bt-d43 chips not only do they run monster speeds, but seems hynix has also improved thier latencies a great deal.. Im almost certian my pc 4000 has these chips. and amazingly they will run to 220 at 2-3-3-5. now that aint bad for memory designed for 250+. If u could find some kingston value ram with these chips it might be worth your while to pick up a couple. If they happen to be the late version u might get some really good bh5 replacemrent for cheap...

The only Mushkin Level 2 selling at NewEgg is the 1GB Kit of Level II PC-3500. At $315, it's no bargain.

Kingston HyperX PC3000 should have Winbond BH-5 chips. It's selling for ~$200/1GB.

All of these will want as much vDIMM voltage as you can give it to perform to it's ability.

Winbond BH-6 chips will want lots of voltage.

Winbond BH-6 isn't bad at all though - and I believe that the BH-6 memory line is called something else. If you get the Level II from Newegg, then it will still be BH-5. I had some BH-6 a bit ago that was an incredible overclocking stick - 230MHz 2-2-2-11 Prime95 stable at 2.9v. BH-6 isn't a bad buy.

so go for mushkin? I'm getting the mushkin lvl II pc3200 (2x256MB).

Will I be able to play up-coming games perfect with that much memory? Or should I go 1gb of kingston hyperx?

btw, the dual kit I'm going to get is $138, thats a great price right?

Nightmare, that's a pretty good price for Mushkin. The PC3200 O/C's about the same as PC3500. I think you'll be ok for now with 2X256 RAM. Never hurts to have more and if there is a way to scrape up the extra cash, it might be a good idea to get 2X512 to future proof your rig. There are getting to be some games that need that much to run good. Like the latest Final Fantasy etc., but you can still get by with less. Like Speed M says, KHX PC3000 is only $200 for 2X512 at newegg. Look for my thread where I compare these two, the KHX does as good as the Mushkin as long as it has BH-5 chips.

I know where to get mushkin pc3200 w/2-2-2 timings (256mb stick) for $68. The 512mb for $141, dual channel (2x256mb) for $147...

Im planning going for the dual kit of 512mb!

Lol, Im in a predicament though, if I go for the kingston 3200 512mb stick, I can get a radeon 9800pro 128mb card. If I go for mushkin, I can only get like a $150 card.

With the kingston, could I get a 2.4c (assuming that I won't get one of those chips w/nice steppings) to around 3.0+ ghz w/o messing w/voltages at all?

edit---I would be using a p4p800 for the mobo, and an antec true 380 psu.

I am sorry to hear that. I am not sure how you verified the BH-6. This explains why Mushkin tech support would not tell me yes or no for BH-5 chip question on PC3500 Lev II I recently purchased. Although many here have said yes, I believe the only way to verify this is visual. Especially since they ran out of em last summer.

I can run dual channel mode at 210 X 11 w/ max vcore and vdimm, 2-2-2-6. I think I can hit 211 but still testing. I believe I can run higher speeds but I will need to do volt mods and a better power supply.

Oh, my PC3500 lev II has a heatshield. I can't remove it unless I want to void my warranty.

If you take a thin wire and nudge the steel plate from where it holds the two sides, it will come off without a scratch, you will be in for a surprise...BH-6.

Mushkin discontinued the Level II line. Then NewEgg sold out of Level II PC-3200. Mushkin created their "2-2-2" PC-3200 with Winbond BH-6 chips. So NewEgg replaced Level II PC-3200 with "2-2-2" PC-3200. NewEgg is now selling out of Level II PC-3500. NewEgg won't be replacing Level II PC-3500 with anything other then Level II PC-3500. All Level II PC-3200 and Level II PC-3500 has Winbond BH-5 chips. "2-2-2" PC-3200 Special has Winbond BH-6 chips.
