Looking for a Linux Distro for Fax Server

I'm thinking of setting up a fax server on my corporate LAN and I'm thinking that a simple Linux distro that was geared to being a fax server, out of the box, would be nice.

I'm not really proficient with Linux, but I've enjoyed using Smoothwall and Clarkconnect to make little servers. The great thing about those distributions is that they are geared to the novice. All the configuration and monitoring is done through a GUI and the installation is no more complicated than installing Windows.

Is there a Linux distro that has a Fax Server as one of its core functions? Not a full distibution that I'll have to mess around with and know what I'm doing. Something that is really turnkey and has everything built-in, right out of the box.

Thanks!

Not quite simple enough, for me. I don't need a Linux package that can be configured to run, somehow, under some distros, as long as I have the right dependencies, the right versions, and the right services, and, and, and...

I need distro that has this already built in, so all I have to do is install it, go through some very basic configuration (very, very basic) and be up and running.

It is funny you posted this. I just ran across the same thread, over there, a few hours ago. I'm going to give it a shot. I'm really familiar with ClarkConnect, so maybe I can make it work.

Thanks!

By the way, do you think a Pii 350 or celeron 466 with 256mb pc100 would be enough for an all in one clarkconnect box? I'm thinking of something with broadband modem (Zoom pci cable modem)/firewall/router/web cache (proxy?)/media server/fax server combo, will i need faster cpu?
It'd be better to start on new thread on this question.

Yeah, that is enough.

I've run all those services on slower hardware and less RAM.

Once you start using services like Dansguardian or other kinds of filtering, then you start to need a lot of horsepower.

For the standard set of services that come with CC, though, you can run all of them on that hardware you listed.

(You may want to stay away from PCI cable modems, though. I've heard that external modems are usually faster and more reliable. Also, getting Linux drivers for a PCI cable modem, may be tricky, whereas getting Linux drivers for a standard NIC is easy.)

By the way, I tried to install Hylafax, today. Those instructions were quite old and for an older version of CC. I muddled through and I was almost able to complete much of the process. I'm currently stuck on the configuration of the PCI fax/modem. I may give up on that and look around for an external serial fax/modem.

Hylafax seems like a great programe, im looking for a package for a faxserver also.

cmc if you like i could make a img of the server when its done.
and you just need to install the img and change the settings.
sorta like a ghost cd...only problem so far is finding a good tool to make the img.

Gentoo is fine. I'm not very experienced with it, but what I've seen, I like. The only downside is the LONG build time.

ya the build takes a while but normaly i build a few at a time, and if you have your own mirror and portage pre downloaded then it takes less time, just gcc/php/mysql take the longest. well for me.
