Joystick port

I have an old soundblaster 16 card with an attached joystick port. I plugged in a known working joystick and it cant detect it at all. I have double checked the connection, and made sure the card is fully in the socket. The sound part of the card works fine. Is there anything else I can try or should i just count my losses and get a new card?

Some old-school soundcards have jumpers for PnP/Feature selection, have you checked for those?
