anyone take an POTETIOMETER to control there fan speeds sorry if my spelling is bad and if so what value
 
Well, rheostats are basicly oversized pots. From V=IR I think you'd need something in the 6ohm or higher for a 1A fan.

Sp is potentiometer. Pretty close.;)
 
Make sure you use a rheostat with large enough specs
or you'll end up with something like the image below :eek:

Try one of these* 15w/15ohm heavy duty ceramic units.
= $1.65 :)
