Need a New Computer

Ok guys, my aunt need a good, but she wants to spend no more than 1000 bucks Canadian including shipping and what not. She wants a 15'' flat screen and thats taking up most of the budget right there so, try to work around that. Her main use for it would be to surf the net and get email and write a few letters here and there, so it doesn't have to be akiller system, but I'd like it to be fast. For the CPU, I think she wants an Athlon XP because the P4's are too much. Anyways, what do you guys suggest?
