converting quicktime movies to svcd

I wondered if anyone knoew of a program, preferably freeware that could convert quicktime movies to a format that could be burned onto a svcd. I recently downloaded some fan films and wanted to give them to a friend, but they are in quicktime and nothing seems to work.
