no post bios on k7n2 delta

Had this system set up and running and made the mistake of puttting fsb to 166. Wouldn't boot to bios. So following instructions in manual reset jumpers and rebooted. Put everything back to default at default it shows 166 bus but when exit it won't go into bios. Cleared the cmos rebooted got to bios shows chip but only has 100 fsb changed to 133 reboot but can't get to bios. Tried reseting cmos again but couldn't get in. Removed vidio card and ram again got to bios shows chip but only 100fsb hit f10 to save settings and exit didn't make any changes but again i can't get to the bios. am running out of tricks here would appreciate any help.

i tried to set the bios to default and it said fsb was 166 but i did hit f10. The problem now is i can't get into the bios to try it without f10.

Okay i now have the system up and running removed one stick of ram and moved the other one. Have a new problem now set fsb to 133 but it still tells me my clock speed is 1700. Checked all the jumpers and they are set right. This is a copy of cpuid it shows all my settings. If anything is wrong would appreciate any help. I do have a xp 2700 cpu installed even though it doesn't show that.

@ wonka

I put the motherboard in for ratkilla and it was running as a 2700 when it left my house and it is a 2700 from newegg brand new in a retail package.

The chip is unlocked and dated to I believe march 2003. What we need to know is why the Multiplier is at 13? Should it be 16 or 17
by default?

This board (I have the same one but I'm not there right now) only lets you set the multiplier to 13 in the bios.
Is there any way to set it higher that we may have missed? I read the manual many times and didn't see anything.

What about a BIOS update, might that kick things back to normal?

Also what about trying the modded bios on nforcershq.com?

I see your a mod there and you always seem to have a solution to everyones problems, just hoping you would have some more ideas :)

TIA for any suggestions

13 is the right multiplier for an xp 2700 and fsb is 166

only way a chip with a 13 multiplier is unlocked on this board is by wire trick, other wise leave it at auto

leave multiplier on auto set fsb to 166

make sure j10 is on user mode, and rams at least pc 2700

This is a 266mhz 2700 not a 333mhz so the fsb should still be at 166?

This is what he did before and it wouldn't boot.

he has pc3200 ram

also thanks for the reply

OK, first off I'm a idiot :)

I had stated this was a 266MHz fsb processor (this is what I was told)
when in fact it is a:

Model: AMD Athlon XP 2700+
Core: Thoroughbred
Operating Frequency: 2.17GHz
FSB: 333MHz

Now, the problem we are still having is that is it won't post at 166 fsb. 148fsb is all the higher it will post at and the BIOS has been reset many times.

I am going to try this CPU in my system but I am using the same MSI motherboard. I have different ram pc 2700 and I am currently running a xp2400 266MHz fsb CPU.

We still need some more suggestions if anyone has any.

What would it mean if it works in my system?

Or what if it does the same thing in my system?

Keep in mind that the system it's in now (ratkiller's system) it is running with no problem just not as fast as it should be.

So if it works or not im my system what can we deduct from that?
should we think it's something with his motherboard, ram, or the CPU itself?

He can send back any of those we just need to know what one.

I am out of ideas of what to try as we have no other system to test it in.

thanks again wonkaboy for all your help so far.

here is the ram

OCSystem X2 1GB PC3200 DDR400 CAS 2 Match Pair Dual Channel Kit
with aluminum heatspreader. This kit includes 2x match pair
of 512MB PC3200 400MHz CAS 2 DDR module with optimized dual
channel DDR SPD, LOW NOISE PCB,
64x64, unbuffered, 184pin, CAS 2, 2.5-2.9V

the power supply is a 350w enermax, ratkilla didn't have time to check it but it was rated similar to +3.3V@32A;+5V@32A;-5V@1A;+12V@26A

I really don't want to guess on the power supply specs, I know thats inportant.

he did say is 12 rails were 11.70 or possibly lower so that may be a concern.

temp was kinda high 37c idle

he now has his old xp2000 in and it runs fine.

I know have the 2700 and I will put it in my machine this afternoon and post back with the results.
I will also make sure he posts the rails on his PSU.

thanks again

I think we have the problem solved. I put it in my system and it worked just fine.

His 12 rail while running a xp2000 was only 11.50. Would I be correct in assuming (hate that word) that the PSU is the problem?

I haven't heared of anyone having problems with that ram.

thanks to everyone who had suggestions

i have included the power supply in my sig so that there are no more questions as to what that is. Being this seems to be one of the major concerns with these boards. Hope this helps anyone trying to help I and eagle claw with my problem.

I have the same exact problem, I cannot post at all at 166, and around 148fsb is my limit, I have pc2100 crucial ddr ram, and I have no idea what my psu brand is, but the 12v is at 12.16

I found with mine that in the bios the ram timming i believe it was is set to default and that was the problem. It needs to be set at 1:1 that solved my problem not sure if it will help you. But it is worth a try. I was told that the ram should run the same as the cpu.
