hook up a usb modem to an ethernet router through an adaptor of some sort that would be cheaper than buying a new ethernet modem?

Not to my knowledge there is... So your modem is USB only? If so thats no fun, lol.

You could always setup an extra box to share it then goes through the router... but that would probably be more money in the long run.
