If you're trying to ask: "Are 1000Mbit networking devices compatible with 10/100Mbit networking devices?", the answer is yes. They'll only work at the lower speed, obviously.

Yes. Gigabit ethernet is compatible with 100 and 10 Mb ethernet devices.

I understood the question. Yes Gigabit is backwards compatiable with 10/100 equipment.

hehe, i think the wording "gigabit lan" is a pointer to how m/b manufacturers and stores describe a network connector/lan card/ networking chip - you name it - that comes with some of the m/b's nowadays; so, don't blame the guy for quoting

yep, it works - i got a "gigabit lan" on one of my systems. a gigabit networking card built in m/b and it works fine with my linksys router which is a 100/10 part.

I would love to assymble a gigabit LAN. Not that I need to move data that fast but still.... I mean how cool is that? The price just need to drop a 'little' more for the gigabit switches.
