Fast HDD

Does anyone know what the next fastest harddrive next to the raptor is?

I would like to get another harddrive thats relatively fast, but not expensive. it doesn't need to be big either. its just for me to try out linux.

Any 8mb cache IDE HDD would be the next fastest. WD and maxtors are great buys. People will tell you that all these SATA's are faster, but SATA's an interface, which has a higher bandwidth of 150mb/s instead of PATA which is 133mb/s....either way you will not saturate even 100mb/s bursting.

The raptors are fast because they have SCSI platters and 10k rpm....

So just find a 8mb cache WD or Maxtor.

But considering the TINY difference in price between an equally matched IDE and SATA drive, you might as well just get SATA. But yes, 8mb buffers are the thing to look for. It'll probably be a WD for IDE and a Hitachi for SATA. I think.
