New farm finally completed

It was a real pain, but it's working fine now. It's my first intel rig in years, it'll be a good cruncher when I buy a new hsf and overclock it. Tried for fun earlier, went up to 3.4 no problem with the retail intel fan so it's looking good. But the rig I'm the most impressed with is my new Soltek Qbic. Strapped in my old trusty xp 2400 and I was surprised to find out that this little sff can overclock like the big ones! Only bad thing is the restricted airflow compared to a full size case with fans. But it still easily managed well over 2300mhz. Since they're obviously not built for overclocking I brought it down and it's now running at 11X200 and temp 51c full load so I'm very pleased. Also bought a replacement for my board that blew few days ago. My xp 2500 went into that one. Playing with all my new toys was fun, now just gotta pay my credit card!

Yeah that's why I bought that p4, wanted to see that hyperthreading at work! So far it's great, almost double production. I usually always buy AMD, but it's a nice change. I don't know if retail intel fans are crap, but at stock speed my temps are 56c at full load! That p4 is a heat *****! I can only image a prescott with the retail fan! Maybe the fan that came with mine is defective or something, only runs around 3000rpm.

LOL It'll be a good race, I figure we'll crunch about the same. My laptops don't really crunch alot, I don't leave them on for that. So it's really the four desktops. My next buy, a dual opteron, I figure that when that 64 bit is up and running properly, it'll be a tough system to beat. A more future proof investmant than a dual xeon wich is good too but it's not 64bit.

do you have an abit board? most abit boards reports their temps 20c higher than what they actually are. If not you should try lapping the heat spreader and the heatsink (i found that my cpu and heatsink only had about 50%contact w/eachother). I can't remember but if that hs has a thermal pad on it.... scrape it off and replace with artic silver 5. Thermal pads usually increase rather than decrease temps. I had a regular case fan on my processor for awhile and it was doin 45c full load at 3.1ghz as you can see from my sig, I've upgraded my overclock and my fan.
Good luck with your rigs

Hmm interesting, I didn't know that abit boards reported higher temps, that must be why it's freaking out all the time. I usually don't rely on the mobo temps, but this is an antec lanboy case, doesn't come with a thermal prob like my XaserIII. Gonna buy a thermal monitor soon so I'll know the real temps.

I only wish i could put the probe near my CPUs. I have an XaserIII with my Opteron rig. Theres noplace to put the probe. I have it basically reading temps in the case. Kinda useless though.

That's right you got some duallies...But can't you put it under at least one, should give you somewhat of an idea.

nope it is all pins under the Opterons. No space whatsoever. It's all good though.

My pc
Mainboard: Asus A7N8X-X
Processor: AMD Athlon Tbred XP 2400+ 200x11 vcore 1.7500 oced about 2.2gig 24/7
CPU Cooling: Thermlright SLK800U with Thermaltake smart fan II
My full load temp is 37-39c max and idle I think around 32c, never been on idle too much, seti on 24/7. Oh yes how did you manage to get 2300mhz out of that xp2400+, what ram, mobo you got, vcore. So far Ive got only 2200mhz. Ive heard about 2300-2400mhz max is possible with voce of 2.04volts.

Edit Vcore of 1.7500 not 1.7000

That xp2400 is pretty good, been running it overclocked since day one and it never failed me. It's pretty simple actually, 11.5 X 200 and voltage @ 1.75 with a vantec aeroflow on top and AS3. I was impressed because that was done in a little soltek qbic, thought it was pretty good. But I didn't keep it like that for long because it's simply not made for overclocking even though it seems to take out the hot air somewhat effectively. Since I'm running seti 24/7 on it, it's now at 10.5 X 200 1.7v wich doesn't heat much at all and is 100% stable.

I'm half tempted to take the time to push my 2100s further. They do 1950 at stock voltage. Wonder how well they'd do at 2250.

edit: taking my greenmachine offline for pinmodding.

Well I finally got a stable overclock out of that p4 2.8. Received a vantec stealth 120mm fan today so I placed it next to the intel retail hsf. Temps don't go as high and it seems to be stable now at 3304 (14x236) while running two command line seti and writing this. We'll see if it's stable like this running seti 24/7. I'm a cheap ******* when it comes to fans so I guess I should be happy getting this little oc with stock cooling.
