Klipsch 5.1 Promedia speakers will not play rears?!

When I run the Creative Volume control I can do a channel test and a noise test, and those run fine, however when I play an mp3 or a cd or a game all of a sudden my rears dont wanna play!! I restarted the computer, ran a diagnostics Passed!! All speakers work during test and noise/channel creative test, however not in games winamp mediaplayer cd or mp3. How come? any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

ideas:
-mp3 is Stereo: i.e. two channel audio so maybe it shouldn't play the rears.
-CD's are usually simply stereo, but some (Sting and such) are multi-channel, or surround.
-you might have to adjust individual game sound settings to some multi-channel setting and not "stereo" or 2-speaker. (this might be obvious, but maybe you overlooked it?? --it's an easy solution anyway.)
-which sound card?

well, it's a start anyhow...

I am running a 4.1 speaker setup right now. To get mp3's or games with only stereo sound to play out of the rear speakers I need to do one of the following:
1) On the speakers, set it to either Stereox2 or Prologic.
2) I have to enable the CMSS3D option under the EAX HD Console which came with my Audigy 2ZS.
