If I put my zip drive (real old, only 100 MB) and my WD HDD (7200 rpm) on a primary channel will it slow down my harddrive when i'm not using the zip drive?

haven't seen this problem w/ hdd, but a common occurance with floppies. Double check that the cable is put on correctly, not upside down. I've seen this done with FD numerous times (done it myself a couple). Also check that the hard drive is the First in channel, as this will occasionally cause some minor issues if it's 2nd in line.

Your zip will slow down your HD, put them on seperate channels. As a matter of fact, don't put your CD Roms with your HD either.
