Exclamation oc'sd 9800pro120mb 2500mhz, 512@230FSB... and VIDEOLAG!!!

Yeah, with the lowest settings too (highest performance)

In americas army i get a high framerate, in the 90's

but sometimes when im playing i will freeze, my entire screen will freeze for a split second... videolag.

Why the hell?

Sometimes i am in a firefight with someone shooting at them, and i get this split second freeze, and i'm dead.

i know its not bandwidth lag, because my framerate drops down a bit when it happens, and i have a good connection.

what can it be?

still sounds like bandwith lag....

try another online game.
RTCW:TC is also a free online game that is similer...try that.

also, look for low ping servers.

The problem might not be with the graphics card as you are saying that the game *freezes* for a split second, right? If the problem was performance related and with the graphics card, then you would expect the game to slow down (drop in fps and become laggy) and not freeze. Even with a much older card, the game should not freeze. I therefore do not think that the problem is performance related.

I have not played America's Army so I don't know anything about the game but what about other games? Do you have this problem in any other game as well? If not, then the problem could just be with that game. Perhaps there is a patch available for the game which fixes this, or maybe the newest drivers from ATI address this issue.

Well, if the problem is not with the game or the drivers, the first thing that comes to my mind is the memory. If your CPU is overclocked and your memory is running with too tight timings, that could be it. I have seen this myself (and in all games). Memory chips do have error correction ability and so just because your computer is running without crashes or freezes does not necessarily mean that your memory is running optimally. You could be getting these freezes because the memory is spending too much time doing error correction. Try to relax the timings a little bit and see what happens.

The second thing I can think of is the hard disk. When the game freezes for that split second, can you hear anything from the hard disk? Perhaps you are running out of memory and the swap file is kicking in? Or it could just be that the hard disk performance is suffering. This could be a result of chipset drivers. You can try to install the latest chipset drivers for your board and see what happens. If you have an Intel system, install the Intel Application Accelerator. As a word of advice, if you re-install your motherboard/chipset drivers, re-install the graphics drivers afterwards. On my system, if I don't reinstall the graphics card drivers after re-installing the motherboard drivers, my games will lock up and my AGP settings get messed up.

EDIT: After Mica's post, I realized that you were playing this America's Army game in multiplayer mode. When you said bandwith in your post, I assumed you were talking about the bandwidth for the graphics card.

Well, the test here is easy then. Do you still get this split second freeze when you play the game in single-player mode? If not, the problem is with your connection.

Furthermore, the split-second freeze you describe is very common when playing multi-player games. The more players you have, the more lag there will be, even if you have a great connection. After realizing that you are playing multi-player, I too am convinced that the problem must be with your connection.

I had the same problem with my Hercules 8500LE at high Overclocking speeds... I fixed it by getting the lastest chipset drivers and the 'Hercules' set of there own drivers... they are tweaked more for there cards than others...

I had that problem until I switched to omega drivers. Every ati drive would cause chopping. I think that it has to do with conflicts with my ****ty audigy.

audigy2 and an ATI 9700pro AIW, with not one problem....ever.

I have no idea what your system parts are like, but I'd also look at chipset drivers...or stick with omega drivers.

It does not happen in lower end games such as half life

but the freezing happens during higher end games such as americas army, farcry, or any other bleeding edge game.

Do you have

fastwrites turned off? If not turn them off.

VPU recover on? If so turn that off too.

If you have a firewall, and antivirus running turn them off too.

Check what unnessary services you have runing.

I play CoD at max with yajhoo chat running, and have no problems at all.

I get the same problem when a Kernal file in winbloz corrupts.

It happened to my friend as well. Once he re-formatted it went away.
