Don't forget your dvd players people :)

Hello

Game developers are heading towards releases in dvd form only and fast.

I went to my local GAME shop the other day and the new Dues Ex Invisible War was on sale only in the dvd packaged format no cdroms

And I am guessing that UT2004 and HL2 plus Far Cry and many, many more will be DVD releases.

All those who don't have them will nead to go get at least a player

UT2004 is going to be 2 dvd's and in cd form the game would of took 5 cd's lol

Evolution in full swing

To be fair, Metal Gear Solid 2 was released on 1 dvd or 5 cds (I think). I guess it is time for me to get another dvd-rom drive, I sold mine awhile ago

Yes, developers (finaly) are bowing down to the lazy man, because he hates to swap cds every 4 minutes when installing....

About damn time! I have some old GamePro mags from 97, lol, and there was this one article I remember saying, that game developers are going to be releasing most of the pc games on dvd-rom by summer '98, I guess they were 7 years ahead of themselves.

Yeah stupid 4-6 cd swapping deal. I hate that, and plus all that space that is used up on the hard-drive. When the heck are they going to think of some kind of media, that loads onto it self, via flash or something and won't require you to install on your HD. *sweet sweet future*

That is completely possible, but unpractical.

Yeah I couldn't agree more with all of ya.

Tis about time, and with the price of dvdrom drives down to under £30 english pounds now, they are cheap at that.
Also like the guy says their faster and also uber cleaner uppers of clutter, ie disks down from 5-6 to 1-2.

Makes pure sense from the developers point of view, and ours also.

Not going to happen any time soon

007 your local gameshop was just lazy and didn't order games on CD, since very few games come on DVD compared to Multiple CD's

Guys, I just want to follow up on what N1vek215 mentioned. Really, it IS about time more games were released on DVD. My first custom built machine I got was back 8 years ago, (its still lying around- p2 400mhz, 256sdram PLUS DVD). The guy who built me it assured me that the dvd reader will be absolutely necessary as most games will be released on dvd, and i was big on games back then. Can you believe that? EIGHT years have passed by and I still have yet seen a game on dvd. Jeez.

Its about time. I remember thinking how rediculous it was back when I bought Diablo 2 and had to keep swapping cd's on the install. It seems that most of the major games nowdays have at least 3 cd's (play disc, map disc and cinematics disc) or more. Plus DVD drives are getting to be pretty much standard on all newer machines of the past 2 years or more. I guess that it is about time that some people will have to upgrade.

I think it would be very nice if more games came out on DVD. Both of my machines have them, and I think that most new computers from dell, gateway, etc. usually have them too. Plus, I think it's more convenient to have a DVD drive and a CDRW, because then you can copy on the fly instead of having to save the disk on your HDD and then burn the disc.
