I am currently compiling a custom kernel to support ataraid for my chipset following this guide.

http://www.madpenguin.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=150

I skipped the SMP stuff of course.

My question is how to then install slackware using the kernel I am making now.

Normally when setting it up, it asks me to select the kernel to begin installation, how do I specify one, not on the CD?

Also what files do I need to keep from the new kernel?

Those directions are for after you have a working system. Then, you replace the old kernel with the new one.

I know, but I want to take the kernel, and use it on a NEW install.

So this way I can have the OS on the raid setup.

the kernel IS the os, everything else is an extension. Add support in the kernel, then replace old one with new, update lilo, and bammo, you have your support.
