Greetings,

I'm just starting to get my feet wet with oc'ing, and am having a dilema with boots to the desktop durring gaming.

I've had my vcore at stock and up to 1.75, which yielded the same results, It's fine until it's stressed.....sometimes I can go 45 minutes with no probs, other times it 10-15 minutes, there has been no voltage increases to my ram or chipset, just the vcore.

The system is rock solid with my current setting of 12.5x166, so I'm guessing I'm still a little short on voltages to the ram as it's on the stock setting, and the default setting for my ram is 2-2-2-6.

My temps are just fine, after 4 hours of gaming I'm at 34. It's winter here so I tend to keep the house a little cooler.

I have an aluminum Chieftech Dragon full tower, with 1 80mm bringing air in the front, 2 80mm exaust, and 1 120mm Panaflow that I modded to my side window blowing over my vid card/NB/bottom of my hs/f.

Another point to add is that my cpu is pre week 39, with the 3 sets of numbers refrenced from the cpu, it comes back as a 2800+

Hopefully I've covered all the info you need, if not, let me know.

Thanks for your help,

Flinch

Use Prime95 Torture test to test the stability of your system.

If you get errors, try increasing Vdimm RAM voltage and Vcore voltage, sometimes over 1.8x volts is needed for major overclocks.

Also, if the program displays errors, try relaxing RAM timings, instead of those 2's try higher numbers.

To test the stability of overclocked CPU, download the latest bug fixed version of Prime95:
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

Double click on PRIME95.EXE to start the program.

Just Stress Testing (if prompted) > OK >
Options > Torture Test > Blend (if prompted) > OK

The program should not give any errors.
It may be necessary to run the program 12-24 hours to make sure an overclocked system is stable (no program errors displayed).

If you get errors only after several hours, this is a result of slight instability because the system is running with little or no margin. It's stable enough to boot and to be moderately stressed, but as soon as the system is under enough load to go over that critical point, it will freeze. To be 100% stable, Prime95 should run 12-24 hours without any errors.

The point of testing is to see if you get errors or not thus testing the stability. The meaning of errors themselves is not as important.

Running Prime95 Torture Test for 5 to 30 minutes is enough to get a feeling about general stability. If it seems to be stable, increase the FSB (with 0.025V Vcore increase if needed), or increase the multiplier by 0.5.

Reboot and run Prime95 Torture Test for 5 to 30 minutes and repeat this until the Program displays errors.
It's then time to back down and repeat the Torture Test until there are no errors for at least 12 hours.

It's OK to use the computer while Prime95 Torture Test is running in the background.

After finding your stable point you may want to then retest by going to the Advanced section, setting the password to 9876 and then setting Priority to 10. (You won't be able to use your computer while Priority 10 Prime95 Torture Test is running, but it'll confirm your system stability.)

Use 3DMark to test video card stability.

Thanks for the info, I'll give prime 95 some more time, as I have used it in the torture test mode for an hour at a time prior with no errors. I'll shoot for the 12-24.

Thanks again.

I sometimes use the prime95 torture test along with the sandra burn in wizard together, I just set the usage % to enable them to both run equally and stress the cpu as much as possible.

That's not going to stress the CPU as much as possible, Krowa 02.

Prime95 > Advanced section, setting the password to 9876 and then setting Priority to 10.

will.

(You will not be able to use your computer while Priority 10 Prime95 Torture Test is running.)

Tonight I'll up my vdimm from default to 2.8, to see how that fares;)

Also note that running two programs at once will interrupt one another, thus the program can not stress, no matter what priority to it's full potential.

So far..so good....spent the last three hours playing BF VN without a hitch. Temps were at 39 after that duration.

Vcore-1.7
Vdimm-2.8

Granted this is not all conclusive, but it's driving me towards optimism...

Thanks Guys
