I came across an old system with a "Kinpo KP6IBB" motherboard in it.

Here's a link to the MB manual: http://www.kinpo.com.tw/download/mb/manual/KP6IBB.pdf

That documentation says that the fastest CPU (P2, P3 or Celeron capable) for the board is 600MHz. Of course, at the time the board came out (1997) the fastest chips out were 800MHz I think.

So, my question is: Do you think I could get this thing to run at least a 900MHz chip (min req for a game)??

Thanks for your help!

Depends if it supports P3 Coppermine voltages or not. There are some Slot 1 boards out there that won't support those voltages.

I took a quick breeze through the manual and all I can find is that this 440BX has been limited to either 66 MHz or 100 MHz FSB operation by way of a jumper on the motherboard. Even the latest BIOS update available for the board says it will only support up to 600 MHz P3 (100 x 6).

In 1997, the fastest chips were approximately a P2 300 and an AMD K6-2 300 :)

//Edit: Humm, Pg 40 & 41 seem to offer a ray of hope. You can manually set the FSB inside the BIOS through the "CPU SPEED SETTING" menu. Documentation states it supports multipliers 3x-8x and FSB's of 100, 103, 112 & 133 MHz. Looks like you are in luck. Not sure about the Coppermine voltages, but chances are pretty high that it will take one.
