Cheap ebay pelt!

I've been looking for a more powerful cooling solution since I fried my last Barton 2500+ and I was thinking...

I'm already planning on purchasing a SLK-900 - but what if I hook it up to a pelt like the ones they're selling on ebay?

Ebay Pelt

Do you think the pelt would move enough heat for an overclocked AMD barton?

Also, should I think about getting another PSU to handle the 5A load? I already have 3 hard drives, AMD2500+, DVD-RW, & lots of PCI cards on a current 480 W powmax psu.

Ok I answered my first question.. found specs at this auction and think 85 watts of cooling power should be enough for my OCed AMD 2500+ right?

85-115 Watt pelt

I've seen quite a few people talk about these ebay pelts in their threads... has anyone actually done this before with this pelt? If so what hotplate & Heatsink was used??

I can't seem to find anyone selling hotplates..

Nah, that is not nearly enough... You need:

pelt wattage = 2 x processor heat output

You need a 226 watt or 172 watt peltier to do a good job cooling that processor and you will not be able to cool it on air.

Also, it's actually called a coldplate because you use it on the coldside of the pelt - you can find them at danger den or similar stores - www.jab-tech.com might carry them. You won't be able to use a slk900 unless the bottom is flat and matches the size of the pelt... If the base of the 900 is like the 700 it is thin and long and won't fit a pelt.

A strong enough pelt will require a seperate PSU to power it.

The assembly goes CPU->coldplate->TEC->Heatsink

There are cheaper and more powerfull pelts on e-bay.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...&category=4660

You need a lot more wattage on your pelt than the thermal output of the cpu, pelts arn't very efficent. You also need a dedicated power supply for any decent sized pelt. This is where most of the cost of a TEK system comes from.

I got a couple of pelts from the guy doing that particular auction. He goes by "ThermalEnterprises" on Ebay.

They are grade A excellent pelts that work like a hot damn. If you are gonna get pelts off Ebay, I recommend dealing with him

Also, its never a bad Idea to get pelts that are way too powerful for your needs (By specification), you can always turn the voltage down and reduce the yeild. You can't however turn a pelt up past its maximum voltage

you way better off getting the 226w tec

Yes he is great. I bought a pelt from him on and it arrived in my mailbox in two days. It was well packed too.
