VGA Silencer Makes Ram Really Hot?

i installed a vga silencer on my 9800pro on thursday, while playing unreal2k4 i checked the temp of the card and the ram was pretty hot even with ramsinks on them.

before installing the silencer my ram would be pretty warm while stressing the card, but after i installed it my ram gets pretty hot is this the silencers fault or is it just me?

the ramsinks depend on airflow around them to cool the ram. The VGA silencer probably cuts that airflow to nearly nothing, so yes, it is to blame.

You can still use it though, just mount another fan in your case to blow air over the videocard. It doesn't have to be high powered or noisy, just enough to get the air flowing, and the ramsinks cooling.

yeah i had to use a card cooling bracket i bought a while back to cool my video card now.

even with copper heatsinks the ram gets really hot, when i was playing colin mcrae it almost burned my finger.

Mine is pretty hot too. After playing a little Halo or UT2k4, I felt my card's ramsinks and they were pretty hot to the touch. I'll be mounting a fan near my card as well.

Hope you didn't damage your card. If you follow the installation instruction and tighten the U channel bracket all the way down to the stops you will damage you card. I only tighten down till it tight http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.p...t=vga+silencer

I thought it was impossible to crush your core with the shim still installed...

i think the only way you can crush your core with your shim on is if you tighten down 1 side fully then the other side fully.

but that depends if your core is raised above the shim, if its below it i think its pretty much impossible to crack it.

or you can crush it by tightening it more than you should even if your trying to stop at the rubber thing.
