Dunno what you're thinking about there, maybe Watts. I think someone talking is supposed to be about 20Db (that sort of order of magnitude), and really loud things like rifle shots or jet engines get to over 100Db. 40 isn't too loud really, but in a room with just the computer on it is really noticeable.

I just ignore it unless someone is talking to me, then I just turn it off

Mine was that way too...

Then I dropped the 120mm intake fan to 7V instead of 12. Now it just purrs.

I got six 80 mm fans in this thing. I didn't realize how loud it was until my brother called me to ask me something and then asked if I was vacuuming my room. Sounds fine to me, but all my friends say it's loud as heck.

All I have at the mo is the PSU fan, heatsink fan and 2 80mm case fans. The sucker still sounds like a jet engine at idle......

How do you recognise something that is still technology?
A good clue is if it comes with a manual...

Mmmm, I love my fans! Two on my CAK38, the delta a thin 60 mm from my friend's duron; two 80 mm intake, up front(came with my case), two 80 mm on PSU, one 120 mm over PCI slots+supplying air to the heatsink's fan, and two 60 mm placed for airflow

Still need more, though, especially one up on top, but the only thing that really makes a noise is the damn delta! Drowns out everything else!! Maybe I'll replace it with a quieter 80 mm, if I can fit it behind my PSU...

i once read somwhere that if you put a mic and a speaker in your case then you can cancel out sounds, they suposedly use it on movie sets to make the actors footsteps seem quiter. if anyone is interested you can email me and ill dig it up form my hdd. two_dope2000@hotmail.com
