the way mine works (danner mag 7) is that i have it sitting in a container full of water (4x4x4 sealed box) and a tube coming out of it running into the waterblock. the return water tube (coming from the radiator) simply goes back into the container and then eventually gets recycled into the system again...and again...and again...etc.

hope i'm answering the question you asked...

This is a Maxx Jet pump is a powerhead and here is a image of it

Don't you need to have a big tank to mount it?? and that one is 295 gph

Now here are the "water pumps"

Eheim 1048

160 gph max

5 foot head

Danner Mag:

500 GPH

Rio 3100 Aqua/Pump 969 Gph

right, if you take a look at the danner mag pump, there are 2 openings. the opening on the top is where the water gets pumped out of, and the opening on the front is where the water gets sucked into the pump.

so you have two choices.

you can either do like i did, and submerse your pump (MAKE SURE IT IS A SUBMERSEABLE PUMP FIRST!!!!) inside your water reservoir, then attatch a tube to the top opening that goes to your waterblock, and thus the rest of the system.

OR you could do an "inline" system where you have both the openings with tubes on them (whereas the tubeing, waterblock, radiator and pump all make one closed loop).

the inline way of doing it seems to be more of a hassle to me, as you would have to add a fill tube and also worry about leaks in the pump.

that do the trick for ya?

i got the danner mag 7 (exact same thing except it pumps 700 GPH) and i had to go to the hardware store and get fittings to put barbs on the top opening. if i remember right it was like a buck and a half or something like that. all in all with tubeing, adaptors, inline valves and reservoir box i think i spent like 25 to 30 bucks.

and the danner mag 7 uses either 5/8 outer diameter (OD) and 1/2 inner diameter (ID) tubeing or 3/4 OD and 5/8 ID tubeing, but i'm sorry i cant recall which of the two it was.

i brought my pump to the store, told the clerk i needed to get hose for it, and they just put a sticker on it and let me bring it right in so i could fit the tubeing to it.

the hardest part was trying to get the 5/8 adapted to 3/8 hose! cripes! what a nightmare! it didn't help that the resident plumber seemed to be a tad bit slow...especially when i tried to explain what i was attempting to do. "Now why in God's green earth would you want to do THAT?!"

One thing to note about the Danner pumps is that they have a tendency to leak if you don't seal them really well. Also, it is a pita to get that 5/8" male --> 3/8" barb.

Eheim are the Mercedes of pumps, IMO, although like the Benz, you pay for what you get.
