a Sweet way to raise money for cancer research

No, this isn't for raising money for these forums or anything.

my school ( upper valley JVS in Piqua Ohio ) Its a Vocational school. I am in electronics.

Well, our teacher, every year helps out on Relay for life. to raise money for people with cancer

Our Teacher is a DJ. And he plays music there ( free of charge, of coarse ) and our class always helps set the place up, get it running and do about 90% of the work. And THEN we try to think of ways to Raise some money.

So, what we are doing, is in our school, or near it. We are going to have a Lan Pary!

Going to charge a small fee for people to enter, and come in to join the lan. Then we will probably sell food and pop, and all.

a friend ( Dustin Springman ) whom works for a Computer store called LAM compuers, and he started his own buisness for Custom modifications, and custom computing and stuff, he sells clear cases, custom made keyboards/mice...etc...( by the way, his buisness is BOOMING like MAD. he can't keep up with demands, he's working NON stop ) ( oh he also has a Website, if anyone wants it, PM me or something, since i can't advertise sits on these forums )
Also, he was one of my Teachers previous students. he graduated last year.

Well, basicly me and him are going to be running the lan party. So i get to stay up all weekend for 36+ hours being at the lan itself, probably nearly 48 hours, if i stay up even longer after i get home.

the Relay for life lasts like nearly 36 hours. Not quite sure how long the LAN will be. But once the lan is over, if the Relay itself is still going, i'll probably go to the relay itself, and help out there more too.

So, not only do i get to get into a Lan party for free, get food, and drinks for free, get to help run the lan party, but all profits go for Cancer research and all!

I know there are a few members here that live in ohio. Anyone around here know about, or go to the Relay for life fund Raiser? If so, maybe you guys could take a day or something and stop by, have some fun at a Lan party. help people with cancer too.

Just wanted to say how sweet this is to everyone here. My computer knowledge will finially help those in NEED, to help those who have cancer. I hope this goes really good! if it turns out good, we could raise quite a bit of money for this fund raiser.

from toledo....wow...

Piqua is about 30 min. south of Dayton.

we are probably a good.....2 hours away south of you.

amazing, one of my ex's used to live in toledo, she comes up to toledo once in a while to visit her mom.

her name is Amber Stevenson. Doubt you know her. she's one of my BEST friends.

yeah, i am in Miami County. personally a 2 hour drive for a lan party, doesn't seem to worth it, unless it was HUGE!

and i'll say this now. This is not going to be huge. we know its not going to be. we don't expect it to be.

the place we are holding it at isn't a very big building ( or room, i believe we are using part of the school or something like that )

Plus in this part of ohio, there arn't a whole lot of computer savy people that go to lans. i know we can get a few from around here. i can get a few friends to show up too. And i know dustin can get some people to show up too. but other than that, i don't know how many people will really show up.

Just a heads up.

Ahh that sucks. If I could drive I'd probably make the trip, so if you this again in another 9 months, let me know.

Well, sorry I can't make it, but good luck with it.

BUMP for a great cause.
Great Idea!

Are there enough people near you interested in Lan Parties and such. I know very few gamers like myself around here. Also, what I would suggest is contacting large companies, like NVidia and AMD, they sponsor events like that. They provide posters, shirts, prizes and stuff all for free to help causes like your own. Go for it. When is this thing? I am in NJ, but I would love to find a way to get over there.

Thanks for the support guys.

Any of you guys have any other idea's on how to raise more money at the Lan party? other than just the enterence fee, and probably selling food and drinks to the people.

i want to try to raise as much money possible out of this, but yet not screw the people comming to the event.

We don't want to over charge people here. thats not the goal, but we do want to raise as much money as possible.

maybe we could also set up a jar or something, for people to just donate too.

But any other ideas that we could do during this to help raise more money?

If you could get some games and such, you could sell them there for a small markup.

True

Something else i thought of

We could set up like a tournament for certin games...such as...UT2K4 or something like that.

those who want to join the tournament, pitch in a little bit of money. The winner gets a certin percentage of the money, and the rest of the money would go to the cancer fund raiser.

Any other ideas?

Have a raffle and have people buy tickets for the prize. Big companies that would sponsor you would be glad to give you some prizes to raffle off. Contact Nvidia and AMD...lol.

Another idea...this won't help you get money, but it helps research wise. Encourage people at the Lan to install folding on their computers. Have wedo's one-click install available for everyone to install.
