Died in it's sleep...

Anyone ever hear of a HDD failing while in sleep mode?

'twas a 40GB seagate 7200.7 barracuda.

R u sure it is dead? Not still in sleep mode... Was there a power surge or outage in your area?

it was running when i left to run home for a few hours.
came back and the screen was telling my to insert a system disk.

i rebooted and entered the bios. the bios could not detect the HDD.

also it 'clicks' and 'pops' as long as the computer is powered up.
