Mini-Fridge radiator

I was thinking about this, I have a really nice mini fridge that gets really cold. Is it possible to put a big copper radiator in the freezer to get even cooler temps? I was going to use a drillbit to make holes for the tubing. I know where the refridgerant and wiring is, so I wont damage any of that in the process I know the water wont likely freeze as long as it is moving through my water cooling system. I just wanted to know if this was possible or not?

I dont really know how effective this would really be. It would knock of a few degrees that is for sure. If this is all you are looking to accomplish then give it a shot.

A few people on here have used the mini-fridge as a giant res. and not used a radiator instead just having a large container of liquid in the mini fridge and using that to cool the computer. It basically like a homemade chiller.

It would help, it mostly depends on the frezzer though. I would put a low CFM on on the rad just to help it out but I bet no fan would work.. The only problem would be if the mini-freezer can't keep up with the heatload. If it can't you could ruin it and have your computer overheat if it stops cooling (very little air in a insulated compartment? ya that would heat up quick).

What you might want to do is have 2 HCs, one outside and before the mini freezer and one inside the mini freezer (after the first HC). This way if somthing unfortuante does happen with the mini freezer your computer will still be fine and it will make it easier for the freezer to handle the load and it should give lower temps as well. If you are worried about the water freezing you can put a little antifreeze in your water and that will take care of that.

Ok, thanks for all the help. I will try the 2hc's then, I'm just looking to drop my current temps down a little bit more, nothing too extreme.

You might also need to watch for condensation on the tubing and if you get an put a little insulation around it and probably the waterblock too. Depending on how cold it gets you might need to really insulate the block, around the processor and in the zif socket. but maybe not, it all depends on how cold the little freezer can get it.

Take a look in the archive of Overclockers, under Water Cooling, for something called Big Lar @ 1006, coupla old pics of my old fridge setup, it actually worked pretty well way back then.

I have done similar, I took a larger reservior and dipped the evaporator from the refrigerator in it, I got about 5c water running around a 80watt cpu.
Its kinda messy because you need to insulate everything and it becomes a major pain in the butt.

insulating?

what you mean insulate just put like rubber hose around your tubing or what? how would you insulate it?

hose insulation, like neopreme, and youll have to insulate your waterblock and motherboard, no air should be anywhere close to any of the cold.

Yes, becaus eof condensation. CHeck out the extreme cooling section for stuff on insulation, basicly you get some diaelectric grease and put it in the zif socket, cut squares of neophreme out and put it in the socket center, around the outside, back and waterblock. Plus some on the tubes. (That parts easy).
