What makes pricey snd. cards better?

Lets say I buy a $50 sounds card, what is so much better about one that is $200? It's just sound! What's the difference (if anyone knows)?
*Also whats a good sound card for a good price?

Well this is a generic reply, but yeah better sound.
Better bitrate, more channels (6.1, 7.1), better Signal-to-Noise (SNR), and less taxing on the CPU.
At $200 your looking at add-on devices typically used for garage musicians.

I like this one

Yeah what ^he said.

I like this one, cheap and good quality, and you'll probably never use 7.1 anyway...

For Audiophile level soundcards (>$100) you'll want to ask on audiophile forums like Head-Fi. Generally the difference is that they're better sounding for output and have many more recording features. However, the average consumer doesn't need all those extra features/sound quality so they'd be just happy with a $100 card (like the M-Audio Revo 7.1 for music).
