No I'm not waiting for the 6800 to come out :)

I would like to know what the 2-3 best 5900's (not ultra) would be to get.

I'm currently using a 9800pro and am not satisfied with CS running at 1600x1200 i.e. I get 5-6 people on screen and FPS drop under 50...

My old Ti4400 ran just a bit slower at that resolution and a slower processor.

any advice is welcome

9800 pro smokes the 5900 why on earth would you want to do that? did you try to turn some of the setting down in your Ati utils?

In www.tomshardware.com the 5900 beat the 9800pro as far as regular benchmarks are concerned, it had slightly higher fps in the normal ranges (640x480 - 800x600 - 1024x768 - 1280x1024) the radeon DOES start to win at larger resolutions (bout even at 1280x1024 ) like 1600x1200, and also it does start to get more fps when using the FF and AA featurs, including texture sharpening.

Personally I dont know many people that play games at 1280x1024 (i do hehe, but most dont) much less 1600x1200 and especially when you max out some 8-16x AA, you wont get jack for fps then anyhow, so yes they ATi does win, if you look at it a certain way but in real world situations most nVidia cards are neck and neck if not ahead of the ATi

Also its good to have drivers that are sure to work, I work at a retail PC repair center and see both cards daily, and get to bench and play w them - 2 of my workers got ATi 9800Pros and both hated them in gaming, bad drivers and lockups, threw in a 5900 and it has yet to lockup in weeks :D

Yes very good but frame rate isnt everything if you cant turn on the eye candy but looking at it that way I agree with you 100 percent and thats why I have been thinking of getting a 5900 and softmod it to a 5950

I killed my 9700 Pro with a VDD mod . I'll admit she was an awsome card. I wanted to get a 9800 pro, but A) some of them don't oc too well and B) I did'nt have enough cash to get one.

I went ahead and bought an XFX FX5900XT. Newegg has it for $189 shipped. I bought one from ebay @ $165 shipped. New and sealed in the box. Can't beat a deal like that :D

I'm expecting it this week. We'll see how good she does with a wb and some tweaks. I'm looking forward to flashing it to a 5950U and see what she's got ;) I'll definately keep you all posted.

Yikes... careful dude... most 5900XT users I have seen that flashed to 5950 f***ed their card up and rendered it useless. Remember... you are trying to make 700MHz memory run 950MHz, I'll call you a lucky ba$tard if you get it done and running stable. I can't even get my 5900XT to run higher than 725MHz memory without Battlefield Vietnam closing itself out! (I think I got a dud though... cause cooling is good)
