oc problems

Hey there, I own a week 14 of 2003 xp 3000+ barton processor, I just did the wire trick and pushed it to 200x11 with mem times at 2-3-3-6 and 1.65v vcore and windows froze, once I rebooted I come to find out that the whole WINDOWS/ folder is damaged or resides in an inconsistent area that looks got corrupted in the hang.

I cannot even access the folder from linux, and I will have to reinstall windows again which is a PITA.

The thing is, who else have experienced something like this while overcloking?

I have.

That's why they say baby steps when you overclock, don't take it too high too soon.

Also, why do you need a wire trick for 11 multiplier? Wire tricks are for mobos that can't post 13 and up multipliers which you don't need with your above 200 FSB capable RAM.

When, not if, it will be when, this happens again, take your system back to where it was with a two minute image reinstall:

P.S. 1.65V is way to low for desktop Barton and your setup.

Well, I need the wire trick to access mutlipliers below 13x because my default one is 13x so I am in the upper range, the wire trick is needed to reach the lower ones.

I though that 1.65v would be enough for the overclock, it seems like not :P it is stable right now by compiling a kernel with 4 multi processes under linux, thats like a hard prime95 stress test heh. Right now it is at 1.7v.

Well, lets see when is the last image dated from, otherwise there is a reinstall in order due tomorrow :P
