Help! Hard drive not working!

I just got a new (old) system, and I'm starting to regret just amassing all the old parts I can...because some just don't work for some reason. I can't get this drive to boot, no matter what. I've tried every possible jumper setting on both IDE channels, I don't know what the problem is.

It's a WD 15.7 Gb IDE hard drive. The sticker's worn off so I don't know exactly what model it is.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Is the drive detected in BIOS? It's a WD, so remove the drive setting jumper and try that. It will set it to master without slave.

I agree with Xaotic, WD HDD's are known to be picky about jumper settings, and they can be a real pain to get them to work with a different drive on the same cable.

Remove the jumper and don't attach another drive to the same cable.

This looks odd...

I checked Western Digital's website, and my hard drive doesn't look like theirs...a friend gave it to me for free and said it was fine. I took a few pictures with my digital camera:

Just to stave off any questions...yes, I'm kidding. Thanks for the help, though.

That hard drive was FUBAR...somehow a power pin broke off (don't ask me, ask my brother back home) so I figured he needed to be introduced to the shooting range.

That bastahd was shot with a Ruger .44 Magnum, a Colt .45 Automatic and finally, and most impressively, with a 3-shot semi-automatic shotgun (Brand = ?, they're my friend's guns)

Damn! I didn't get here in time!

My response was supposed to be:

Oh! I see the problem! You have a bent IDE pin...

Because that would have been funny!
