Logitech MX mice...

I need a good gaming mouse. I need one with a lot of buttons (more than 3 anyway).
I hear the Logitech MX mice are really good. I dont want wireless so that puts the MX700 and MX900 out. That leaves me with the MX500 and the new MX510. What are your opinions on these?
The 510 is fairy new right?

I was thinking about the MX300 but the lack of buttons changed my mind..

Anyway, if you have either, let me know how you like it for fast paced gaming.

Thanks.

Well, you said you dont want the MX700, but i still recommend it. I love mine, works great for gaming, no lag or anything like that. I dont think i could live without wireless anymore.

I have a Wireless Intellimouse by Microsoft it works very well for gaming I play mostly FPS and it works just fine. It has five buttons but I can never get them to work in any games even new ones. But I would definetly go wireless.

Mind if I ask why you're opposed to wireless mice? My MX700 is fantastic for gaming.

As far as wireless the MX700 looks really tempting because you do not have to replace batteries or anything. But is it a pain to recharge all the time? Also, how long will the battery in it last? And will the battery life lessen as time goes on?

Another reason is becuase I like assurance, I know that many people swear they cant even get the MX700 to skip, but I know for sure I am in good hands with a corded mouse.

The main reason I do not want wireless is because I dont feel that I need wireless capabilities. The cord on my current mouse doesn't get in the way and I never need to use my mouse at a large distance from my pc. And why should i pay more for something I dont need?

Quick semi-off topic question, what is the purpose for teflon tape or "feet" on a mouse? I hear people talk about it, what is it good for?

Just stick it back in the charger before you go to sleep and you don't have to worry about it ever running out of juice. Even if you forget it'll probably last 2 or 3 days without a recharge. I haven't noticed any battery degradation since I've had it. The only way it'll skip is if you make it skip on purpose... Teflon tape/mouse feet help to reduce friction which will give you smoother mouse movements.

I have the new Microsoft Intellemouse 4.0 wired version. I was using a mx700 before this mouse and I think I like the microsoft one better. One thing I noticed was that without the batteries the mouse is a lot lighter, which seemed to make it feel faster. They also make the 4.0's in a wireless version you might want to check it out.

Plus it has that cool tilt scroll wheel.

Yeah, battery life is only a problem b/c you just pop it in the recharger at night. Sometimes i pop it in after using it all day, and the green light on the mouse thats supposed to blink when its recharging stays solid. Its a really good mouse.

i'll chime in another positive comment on the mx700. i've had mine since february 2003 and have never had to change batteries, and it has never even gotten to the point where i couldn't use it because they needed to be charged. just put it on the charger while you're asleep or at work and it takes less than an hour to charge. works like a charm, best mouse ever.

alot of positive notes for the MX700....however I will be soon replacing mine for an MX510 and put it on a less used pc

problem is I game ALOT...so the only chance I get to charge is whilst I sleep and if I forget then its gameover it goes quite bad in games, side buttons stop working - goes stupidly sensitive as its running out. I spent about 2-3 weeks once with it always just above its "recharge me stage" every hour I was charging it for 10 minutes to keep using it

if you play games 1-2 hours a day, use pc around that 1-2 hours a day then it would be fine for you...anything more than that - especially is you have some dedication to a game IE a clan, then I would get an MX510 - less hassle

I have a Logitech MX500 and it's incredibly perfect for gaming! Very smooth. And after MX510 came out they say it's even better!? I can't immagine how a perfectly smooth mouse can be even better.. so IMO MX510 corded mouse is the best choice.

But the good thing about the mx700 is that if you do forget to recharge, just pop some normal AAs in it and its good to go until you go to bed or take a break from your computer, then you recharge the other ones.
